Our History:

Five Decades of High Integrity & Commitment to Local Community

Today, Citywide Banks is Colorado focused community bank with $1.3 billion in assets and 12 branches across the Front Range. We specialize in commercial lending and treasury management solutions customized for small and midsize businesses based in Colorado.

Our history began when our founders remodeled the humble remnants of an old tire shop on Colfax Avenue. Citywide Banks opened our doors in 1963 under the name Aurora National Bank. Our founders were determined to set a new standard for business banking in Colorado. With a keen understanding of the small business owner’s financial needs, they set out to create a bank that offered the service, expertise and products often reserved for larger businesses.

Vince Schmitz co-founded Citywide Banks in 1963 with a management style and a strategic vision that highlighted integrity, fairness, and service that exceeds expectations. He also believed the bank and its employees had an important responsibility to give back to our local community. He instilled these ideals in every new employee.

During the mid 1990's, Vince tapped his sons, Marty Schmitz and Jeff Schmitz, to assume management of the bank's daily operations and ensure his legacy would prosper for many years to come. In 2009, Kevin Quinn joined the executive leadership team as president and CEO of the bank.  And, as it has through its five decades, Citywide Banks continues to attract some of the brightest minds to its banking team.

On November 2, 2010, Vince Schmitz died peacefully with his family by his side. He left behind a storied legacy of family, philanthropic endeavors, and the burgeoning banking business. Those that knew him will miss the warm smile and lasting advice of the man who gave so much to his family, his community, and his customers.

Vince impacted many lives inside and outside of the banking industry. He was awarded the Banker of Distinction award and the Del Scott award by the Colorado Bankers Association. He also received the Business Person of the Year award and the Humanitarian Award from the  City of Aurora as well as a Distinguished  Alumni award from Regis University. He had served on the boards of numerous community organizations during his life. With his wife, Marilyn, he established the Schmitz Family Foundation to help those trying to help themselves by bettering their lives through education, primarily Catholic education. Their generosity has helped educate over 1200 elementary and high school students. Today, the Schmitz Family  Foundation continues to build on this legacy and provide support and hope for future generations.
